Filed under: Computers and Internet. However, in recent years notebook-laptop computers have been improving at a rapid pace, managing to catch up to both the performance and the affordability of desktop computers, all while being very portable. It used to be that notebook-laptop computers were used only by business people with a lot of travel in their job descriptions. Older laptops were far from ideal for most uses – they were much less powerful in terms of processing power and had incredibly short battery lives as well. These computers weren’t much more than a glorified word processor, other than offering the ability to check one’s email and browse the web while on the road.
It’s a whole new world no, with notebook-laptop computers available in a wide variety of sizes and styles as well as price points. Sure, you can still spend a fortune in a laptop, but there are also plenty of models which provide comparable performance to desktop computers at the same price. There are also notebooks which are designed with different functionality in mind; there are models which are made for entertainment, for gaming and no-frills models which are still aimed at those who need little more than a mobile word processors. There are even notebook-laptop computers which are capable of handling state of the art graphic design and video editing work. Newer laptops are made for portability and efficient use of power for longer battery life.
Modern notebook-laptop computers fit comfortably into a standard briefcase or backpack, with sizes from ten inch netbooks to widescreen models which are ideal for graphic design work or watching movies. The smallest of the newer notebook computers can weigh as little as two pounds – some of these models are incredibly streamlined as well, being less than an inch thick! These ultra streamlined models are of course the high end of the market, but it’s easy to find notebook-laptop computers which fall into the middle, offering a manageable size and weight and high performance at low prices. With the technology used in portable computers becoming increasingly sophisticated and the competition ever fiercer, prices will continue to drop.
Battery life has always been something of a bte noir for the users of notebook-laptop computers. However, there have been a number of innovations in battery design and energy efficient component which have resulted in laptop batteries which can power your notebook-laptop computer for as long as eight hours! Just imagine being able to use your laptop for a full work day and only need to recharge it at night! If you’ve ever scrambled to find an open outlet for your rapidly draining laptop battery, you can appreciate what an improvement this is.
Notebook-laptop computers use much less power than do desktop computers. Upgrading to a notebook-laptop computer instead of a desktop will save you a lot of money on your energy bills.
A newer notebook-laptop computer also is much more quietly than a desktop since engineers have managed to solve the issue of heat management. Thanks to their improved designs, laptop computers are no longer prone to overheating issues and have smaller, quieter fans; and many have no fans at all! This alone allows a laptop computer to use far less energy than a desktop model.
All in all, there is no reason not to have a notebook-laptop computer. They are affordable, portable, efficient, and with more and more wireless hot spots popping up around the world, they can help you stay connected while you are on the go. Why even bother with a desktop anymore?
