Posted on July 21st, 2009. Filed under: Kids and Parenting. When shopping for children’s toys, you need to know which toys are safe to buy and which ones are dangerous. Some toys have been recalled but the stores continue to shelf them. If you have not been keeping up with the news and the toy recall list, then you could purchase some nice toys that your kids will love to play with but these toys may turn out to contain some harmful materials. You need to be careful when buying toddlers toys or toys for babies in particular because a small amount of dangerous substance in toys can can be deadly for them.
It is a sad fact that hazardous toys are still sold in stores all across the nation, despite emerging new laws that are there to protect children from hazardous toys. Toy safety is a major problem that parents worry about daily. While most of the toys on store shelves are considered safe, there continues to be various toys that are dangerous for small children. Therefore, parents and other child-care providers need to remain vigilant in order to prevent injuries or deaths that can come from toy related issues. With more information, the scope of unsafe toys has been widened to include toys that were thought to be safe such as those labeled as phthalate-free. It is true that even some products labeled phthalate-free can contain the dangerous chemical.
Although manufacturers of toys should act fast to recall products that are unsafe and also give parents all the information they need to allow them to buy toys that are safe for their kids, some of them do not. You will no doubt have heard of many toy recalls in the news but there are a lot more toy recalls that are not reported. As a result, parents may not be aware that they are unsafe to use or buy. The Consumer Product Safety Commission, the agency whose goal is to keep toys and other products safe, have published alerts and information on toy safety but there are still many manufacturers that are ignoring Congress and still sell toys laden with toxic substances. The Consumer Product Safety Commission cannot do much about existing toys that are already out on the shelves.
